CAMPERS BAG THEIR 46th ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE SESSION
C.I.T. member Rachel Bergman and Advanced Section camper Sam Shrago completed their Adirondack Forty Sixers Saturday afternoon in separate hikes. They become the third and fourth campers to complete the 46 during the opening session of the 2008 season. (see entire camp 46er roster here).
Shrago reached the summit of Wright Peak along with a group of ADV members, and his parents, Al and Claudia. “The best part of the day, obviously,” said Shrago, “was reaching the top. But also, we had good weather, a good group and good spirits: the attitude, not the choice of beverage.”
The summit celebration included candy, chips, Nutella and two choices of baby food: Good Morning Country Breakfast and Good Evening Ham, Pineapple and Rice Dinner. “I had all of it,” Shrago said.
Several hours later, on top of Giant Mountain, Bergman became a 46er. “Coming up and walking through the tunnel of hands of my closest friends felt great!” Bergman had been “working toward this for the past three years.”
Bergman was joined on the hike by her father, Mark, and several other C.I.T. hikers. Currently Camp MacCready now has more current 46ers active at camp then it ever has; a testament to the still growing wilderness program.
The summit feast on top of Giant of course included baby food. The flavor: Mac & Beef. Bergman and the hikers returned to camp just in time for dinner. The entree: Mac & Beef.
