Rattlesnake Mountain, July 16, 5:15 am- 21 boys and 5 girls, along with a bevy of staff members witnessed nature in its simplest, yet most breathtaking form: The sun rising in the east. The campers were awoken starting at 2:45 this morning and headed out on a short, yet steep climb to the summit of Rattlesnake. “We were a bit groggy at first,” admitted one camper.

Once on top, the group sat silently, and in awe, as the sun made it’s way over the horizon. The conditions could not have been more perfect. “It was beautiful,” said Daniel Bracho. “The sky turned red. The clouds turned red. We were all really quiet and we got to hear the birds and stuff. Very cool!”

SOCCER SPLIT

LincSocc7   Tuesday afternoon, the boys of Camp Pok-O-Moonshine split a pair of soccer games with the friendly rivals of Camp Lincoln.

In the older contest (ages 13-15) held at home, Spencer Ivey tallied a pair of goals and Amir Hay added another in a 3-0 victory. The teams played a scoreless first half, but Pok-O playmaker Zach Fine remarked, “We played much better in the second half. We knew that we needed to take more shots.”

Try as they might, Lincoln could not score on their shots. Goalkeepers Alex Straus and Jason Vietch teamed up for the shutout. “They really never came close to scoring,” said Straus.

On the road, the younger squad (ages 9-12) dropped a 6-1 decision. The lone goal came off the foot of Griffin Adler. Despite the loss, Ryan Mount observed that “we had a lot of teamwork.” (see rosters and team photos HERE)

PICKIN’ and GRINNIN’

This week, the Pioneer section made its annual trip to a nearby farm for an afternoon of strawberry picking.

The kids had a lot of fun, and the entire camp reaped the rewards: Tuesday evening’s dinner consisted of a dessert of ice cream with fresh strawberries.

The Pioneer pickers were given a standing ovation of thanks from both the boys and girls camps.
