Indian Games Continue

Afternoon of Close Contests

MacRolas1   The start of Indian days is still nine days off, but this weekend is active with preliminary competition. This afternoon, the boys hold their Great Indian BoatMacRolas2 Carnival, while yesterday, the girl’s camp competed in Rolas.

Iroquois Nation Rolas, the oldest game known to man, consists of two teams attempting to kick three of the five active “rolas” into the opposition base. The round robin format saw each of the five tribes facing off against every other tribe.

Many of the games ended in tie scores. In the end, the overall victory went to the Tuscarora. Natalie Schade and Olivia Calabretta paced the way for the victors with several goals apiece. “It was really intense,” said Tuscy Sachem Xylina Robles, who wished all of her players good luck prior to each game. “Everyone thought it was going to end up as a tie for first. It was really cool and really exciting.”

The Onondaga took second, followed by the Mohawk, the Seneca and the Cayuga.

TalentANIGHT OF STARS

Georgia Ladd took top honors in the 104th Pok-O-MacCready talent show, held Saturday evening on the Whiteley stage at Robinson Hall.TalentB

Ladd’s solo operetta brought the packed house to it’s feet. Having practiced for her performance, Ladd was inadvertently left off of the list of performers. The mistake was discovered with but one act remaining and, with little warning, the 16-year old performer took the stage and overwhelmed both the audience and judges.

Second prize for camper acts went to Ladd’s fellow C.I.T. Adina Shapiro, who soloed Paul McCartney’s “Oh Darling.” Campers Jacob Gittler and Thomas Schieffer also claimed a top three placing.

The night of entertainment featured dancing, storytelling, comedy, juggling and music ranging from solo singing, to ukulele and trumpet. “The widest array of talent I’ve ever seen in a camp talent show,” voiced co-host Skip Singer, who has been hosting the event since 1978.
