So Many Choices, So Little Time

“I want to do them all!”

It’s a fair without rides and food, but still, a fair with plenty of options. On Monday, campers took part in the annual Activity Fair, giving them a chance ActFairTennto learn about the 30+ class offerings at Pok-O-MacCready. “It was interesting to see all the different activities,” stated 12-year old Emma Berry, “especially all the new people that are working.”

For Berry, a returning camper, the Activity Fair was a refresher course. There were, however, plenty of new campers that experienced the Pok-O-MacCready offerings for the first time. “It was fun. I liked rock climbing and pottery best,” said Madeline Mele. “It was good seeing what you wanted to do, like all of the sports,” exclaimed Jay Strauss, 10. “Plus you got to learn a lot more about campActFairBike.” Added seven-year old Stuart Hutzler: “It was O.K. I chose pottery, fishing, arts & crafts and indian lore.”

Not all of the newcomers were campers. Mountain biking specialist Chad Martin (right) is spending his first summer at Pok-O. “We talked about how mountain biking is the greatest sport in the world. I told the campers that we would start small; test their limits, and go as big as possible! Not only do we have a biking class, but we’ll also do day and overnight trips into the mountains.”

Perhaps the day was best summed up by the dilemma facing nine-year old Henrietta Reilly. “It was interesting because you got to try out everything and see if you liked it. I want to do them all!”

Following the Activity Fair, campers signed up for classes. The heads of camp are busy all day Tuesday with scheduling 32 activities for 230 campers and 60 staff members. Classes begin Wednesday morning.

INTO THE WILDERNESS

The Pioneer section gets set Tuesday morning to embark on a day long journey through the woods and over the water. The youngest boys campers took rowboats across the lake prior to a scheduled climb up Rattlesnake mountain.

Did they make it? Log on tomorrow, when we’ll have pictures and reports from some of the trips that headed into the wilderness; the entire boys camp took part in day hikes.

MacCready Field Games

Crazy costumes and even crazier events were the rule during Camp MacCready’s 42nd annual pre-Indian Games relays.

Sabina Trudeau liked the rolling game, while Xandra Coleman singled out the shoe event, “because we won!”

“Awesome,” raved Hannah Bagley. “The games were great and so was the enthusiasm.”

Kay Murphy probably summed the event up best: “It was strange.... in a good way.”
