“FIESTA ON THE HIGH SEAS”

Pirates party at Pok-O-MacCready.

pparty1LAND HO! Well, sort of; last night’s Pirate Party may go down in the books as the wettest pirate party in Pok-O history. “High Seas” definitely described the scene down at the boat docks. The flooded docks added an entirely new element to the traditional party.

Alaina Ring remarked, “it was way more fun that the dock was flooded. It was awesome.” flooddocksWhile Josh Goldberger thought that the docks were a “disaster zone in a good way.” Many pirates took to throwing wet sponges at one another which eventually turned into, as Dustin Schoenfeld dubbed it, “dock wars.” Grace Ives also agreed that the dock wars were “kind of crazy.”

Another addition to the strange, yet fun atmosphere was a mysterious fortune teller who was shrouded in a blanket. “He was weird, talked funny, and told me and my friend that we would mary brothers and ourfortuneteller lives would be entwined.” commented Claire Dee. “He told me that I was going to have twenty seven kids,” said Olivia Mason.

Pirates young and old enjoyed the event and Owen Schoenfeld stated “everyone partied like pirates.” Headmaster Josh Bornt exclaimed, “it’s the best pirate party I’ve ever attended!”

HAMMERS AND HOCKEYhh5

In the afternoon while the girls are taking more classes, the boys of Pok-O-Moonshine are participating in section activities. After a peaceful rest hour it’s then time to get up, get out, and run around. For the boys most of the afternoon is spent engaging in activities that get the guys moving around. Many of the games that are played have been created here at camp and have become somewhat of a tradition in their own right.

For the Intermediates and the Pioneers yesterday it was an afternoon of an intense revamped version of Capture the Flag. “Hammer of the Gods” is a game that requires its plastranskythinksyers to defend their “hammers” from their opponents who are trying to steal them.

Max Stransky explained that “a lot of the game is about defense and my team needed a little bit more of that.” Each team found a worthy opponent in the other and after two rounds the game resulted in a tie.

Senior boys on the other hand passed the afternoon away with one of their section favorites- hockey. However this was not your traditional hockey game, but instead a more challenging version on the path between the girl’s and boy’s camps. “Hockey on the Path is more of a challenge, because you are playing on pine needles, dirt and rocks.” It’s hard to control the ball when you have to dig it out of the brush” stated Moustafa Ahmed. Even with all of the obstacles the “Skins” won 2-1.
