 What a Show!

An amazing variety of talent at the first Moonshiner of the summer

“What a fantastic night,” exulted emcee Frasier Reid, “so much talent on show!” Last night was thefrasierleahhostsrev first Moonshiner of the summer, and the Colonel H. Tilden Swan Theatre was rollicking with laughs and appreciation for the many fine performances. Cohosts Frasier and Leah (in their eye-catching attire at right) introduced act after act, with skits, songs, and even gymnastics on display from campers of all ages. Among the many, many highlights were the Intermediate girls hosting their own American Idol contest with hilariously awful singing; the C.I.T.s with Robin Farrell not only reciting pi to countless decimal places, but also receiving a cream pie to her face for her efforts; Dorothy Farrell and Katelyn Swensen executing cartwheels and flips across the stage; Jackson Koeppel (below left) delivering his usual witty perspective on life at camp and also a solo of Billy Joel’s Piano Man as well; Natalie Schade singing a fine solo as well; and the Lodge girls writing and acting out their own skit on how to make sure that everyone is happy at camp. Camp’s big talent show is only a week away, and certainly it will provide another fine night for performers and audience members alike.

The Cayugas Win a Close One

The Indian competitions kicked off yesterday with the 103rd annual Great Indian Track meet for the boys, and by the afternoon’s end the Cayugas had narrowly edged out the defending champion Onodagas to take an early lead in the overall Indian standings. The Senecas finished a close third, with the Mohawks and Tuscarora in fourth and fifth place respectively. The mohawkfrogafternoon saw several fine individual performances in addition to the usual displays of tribal teamwork. Max and Devin (at bottom left) made quick work of their apple pie slam to wrap up an Onondaga victory in the Cracker-and-Whistle race, while earlier Thomas Augenstein finished his soccer dribble relay with a slide that brought his Cayuga tribe to a win there. In the wild and crazy and confusing shoe tangle race, it was Ted Gertner, Dan Bracho and Matt Shayne, who, among others, displayed great leadership by also helping their younger teammates with shoe finding and tying. The Cayugas may not have long to enjoy their lead, for the next Indian event is tomorrow: the girls’ Boat and Swim Carnival.
