The Sound of Music

Many campers show their stuff at the 103rd annual Talent Show

3judgesThe Hall was alive with the sound of music...Robinson Hall, that is, as camp’s annual Talent Show took to the stage yesterday evening. Music was clearly the talent of choice as more than a dozen performers showcased their instrumental and vocal talents for an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Each performance was evaluated by the panel of celebrity judges, Randy and Paula and Simone (at left), with Simone receiving many boo’s from the audience for her caustic comments and low scores. It was all in good fun, though, as each contestant received hearty applause;koguitar there were a few standing ovations as well. Among the noteworthy performances were those by Teanna O’Leary, Dominick Rizzo, Mark Balderston, Hannah Beilenson and Nicole Jarck, Sebastian Moody, and the ADV members Doug Caven, Jack Connors-Kellgren, Geoffrey Livsey, and Collin McCullough, who led a sing-along of “The General.” Katie Gigantiello won third prize for her fine tap dance routine, while the trio of Maggie Belshe, Arielle Trager, and Devon Lester won second prize for their rendition of one of Maggie’s own songs. Tying for second was Kevin O’Leary (at right) who, in typical camp fashion, had just returned from a very wet and sloppy Colvin and Blake hike and jumped up on stage, still clad in his muddy hiking attire, and banged out a great solo on his guitar. Capturing first place was Jackson Koeppel and Brian Getz performing a White Stripe song, with Brian’s excellent drum solo a particular highlight.

Life at the 1812 Homestead                                   by Anna Finucane, C.I.T.

steadeggv Although the Homestead is a very old farm and is haunted, it is a very educational site. Forsteadpig years many campers have had a fun time making things that people made for themselves back in 1812. One of the projects is making homemade candles. Another is making homemade goods and even sometimes making ice cream. With no electricity everybody gets along while doing regular chores such as feeding the animals. With a new teacher who makes her own clothes and is really nice, kids are learning newer and safer ways to make many things. The Homestead is a very fun place to be, and it’s a very nice environment.

In hiking news: campers have now ascended 39 of the 46 Adirondack high peaks, and this weekend featured many successful trips despite the intermittent rain. There have been a total of 46 hiking/boating trips out of camp already this summer. Also, congratulations to Owen Mellin, who aspired (climbed his 30th high peak) on Blake Mt. this weekend.
