Campers Excels in Inter-camp Riding and Sailing

Keeseville, NY- July 29-- Jamie Konowitz had not even planned on competing. “I was going to go on a hike, but then I decided to go to the show and help out.”JkonoChamp

Konowitz joined over 30 other campers at the summer’s third equestrian competition, at Willow Hill Farm. “At the last minute I decided on (talked into) competing. I borrowed a bunch of gear and had no time to practice on a horse I’d never ridden before.”

She won Champion for her class. It was that kind of day under the hot sun in Keeseville. Pok-O-MacCready won 40 ribbons, six of them blue, along with Champion ribbons for Konowitz and Eliza Blum, and Reserve Champions for Nicole Jarck and Alex Gigantiello.

“Everyone did really well. We were all making jokes and having fun,” said Moustafa Ahmed. “No one was nervous.” Elias Smith, a three-weeker riding in his first show of the summer, had three top-six finishes. “I got to ride camp’s ‘best horse’ (Brownie) for the first time. The stirrups were double rolled, but I still just barely reached them! I’m looking forward to the Big MacCready,” the season’s final show, scheduled for next Sunday.

COMPLETE RESULTS and a PHOTO GALLERY WILL BE POSTED ONLINE TUESDAY

POK-O-MAC HITS THE “HIGH SEAS” OF LAKE CHAMPLAINMaggieBsail

DaveHorwSail  “We thought there’d be good wind, but it turned out to be otherwise,” stated a slightly disappointed David Horwich. Nne the less, the veteran camp skipper turned in two of the days’ more impressive showings, with a pair of fourth place heat finishes Saturday.

The Camp Dudley Lake Champlain Regatta was held on the nation’s sixth largest freshwater lake, but on a day with uncommonly mild chop. “It was kinda of funny when one of the boats wouldn’t turn left,” recalled Rachel Schott. “Overall it was fun. We all got t-shirts and we got our names on the trophy.

Referring to camp’s 2nd place finish, Brian Getz remarked, “They (Dudley) had bigger boats then us, but we still did pretty well.” Pok-O-MacCready boating director and sailing coach Eric Bauer concluded that “all had fun. The campers have a lot more confidence this year; mainly because we’ve done more racing.”
