STALLIONS SWIFT and STRONG

Riding program upgraded with seven new horses

With the summer’s third competitive horse show taking place today at Willow Hill Farm in Keeseville, Pok-O-MacCready riders horseg7expect to bring home a slew of ribbons. That comes thanks, in part, to fine riders and instructors, along with seven new horses, purchased prior to the camp season.

“We’ve always had a good bank of horses, but some of them were aging,” said riding program director Catherine “Cat” Harrison. “The new horses are great for intermediate and advanced classes. They have upgraded the program; now we are taken much more seriously as a riding camp.”

Let’s head to stable to meet the new equine additions, along with some of the campers responsible for both the riding of, and caring for them.

“CHARLEY”: Eight-year old gelding. Cat Sez: “An excellent jumping horse.” Dana sez: “”He’s big, strong and shiny. He can be very sweet and innocent unless he wants his grain. And he appreciates apples.”

“BRAD”: 9-year old thoroughbred gelding. Cat sez: “He’s won four times already. He enjoys sun bathing.” Emily sez: “He likes to eat dead leaves. It’s kinda weird!”

“INTRUDER”: 11-year old gelding-thoroughbred. Cat Sez: “The tallest horse here at camp (17.1 hands). Heidi sez: I have to go slow with him to make sure he understands the basics. I’m really excited about taking him home and working on jumping and dressage.”

“CHAD”: 8-year old bay thoroughbred gelding. Cat Sez: “Fomrer race horse; won twice. Came to camp with his brother “Brad”, who bosses him around.” Jennifer sez: “He’s funny the way he acts with his brother. They always goof around but never hurt each other.”

“HOLLEY”: 5-year old thoroughbred bay mare. Cat sez: “Fast enough to be a race horse. Very sweet; loves water and rolling in the mud.” Eliza sez: “She’s only five so she’s still learning but she picks up things very quick. She likes to go fast!”

PEDRO”: 10-year old ‘Tennesse Walker’ bay-gelding. Cat sez: “Learning to jump and making great progress.”
