Gettysburg, PA, July 3, 1863-- They came from Virginia, by way of Maryland. A grey machine, seemingly invincible, looking Standing in the rebels way was the Army of the Republic. Dug in. Ready to defend their home and preserve the Union. The 103rd annual Pok-O-MacCready Blue-Grey game was held Thursday afternoon. Divided into five separate battles, the two sides aspired to take and defend cities, capture enemy flags and kill their rivals with flour hawks. “It was awesome, one of the best camp games so far,” stated Union Colonol Taylor Chen. “You didn’t have to stay in jail, so as soon as you reported to jail you could get right back out there.” Confederate private Isak Spanjol claimed the best part was “that I stole four flags. The best part was stealing cities.” “Very intense,” according to Jacob Fields of the Confederate army. “We didn’t win, but we had fun.” Nicole Jarck of the Union enjoyed the game’s diversity. “It had so many things, like barricades and flags and flour hawks. And it was more fun than the other big camp games because we won!” Putting the entire experience into a camp perspective, Calhoun mentioned “it was a good way to meet people you don’t know- like people in other cabins and the boys- because we’re all together.
