SummerSchool

Within 24 hours after the arrival of the second session campers, all 180 boys and girls began their three-week class periodSailInstrukts Wednesday morning. Every day throughout the session, boys will take three morning “classes”, while the girls will have a total of four morning and afternoon periods.

“It’s good: lots of choices, “said Isabelle Homberg, who traveled to camp from Spain. “I’m taking dance, riding, drama and swimming. There aren’t enough periods to take all the classes I want.” Lewis Hallowell thinks that “classes are fun because you learn new stuff and you get to meet people with the same interests.” And long-time camper Alyssa Dolgin points out that “you get to take the same classes everyday, so you have more time to work on projects.”

Look over the next few days for a pictorial gallery of many of the 27 class offerings.

NERDY SENIORS

It’s still two weeks until the annual Pok-O-MacCready Greek Festival, but last night one section held it’s own test: The Geek Olympics.

The Pok-O Seniors dressed as scholars and acted the part in a series of competitive mind games. “It was interesting and challenging,” voiced Corey Mossberg. “We had to make a bridge with nothing but straws, toothpicks and clay.” (right)

Section head and full time teacher Josh Bornt: “It’s derived from “Odyssey of the Mind’. It’s lots of fun while at the same time tricking the kids into thinking it’s not really school stuff.”

SCENIC SERVICE

It was Vespers without the dress-up!

Camp’s annual Sunday evening service was held this week in conjunction with Beach Day. “Couldn’t have picked a more beautiful spot,” stated Fraser Reid, who “blessed” the listeners with a rendition of the Scottish national anthem.

In fact, the theme for the entire service was “Multicultural learning and coexistence”. People from Canada, Africa, South America and Europe all spoke about their cultures, and what it’s like to visit the United States. Their words were “inspiring and soothing; much like the waves coming ashore,” said Reid.
