Family, Fun, and Fiesta

Good times shared by all at Parents Visiting Day

familypicnic  “I’m not sure my daughter is ever going to want to come home.” “I can’t believe all the activities that gittlerpicnicare here.” “We drove all the way up to the Adirondack Mountains and now my child wants to go to the mall.” “Can I stay for camp too?!” These were just some of the refrains heard all around camp yesterday at the 103rd annual Parents Day, as parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends crowded the grounds of Pok-O-MacCready. After touring the classes (“Why can’t I shoot archery?”) and cabins (“My son made his own bed!”), the camp family convened for a big Mexican Fiesta on the Junior Ballfield, complete with barbequed chicken, corn, and of course James’ Ice Cream. From there some families stayed to play at camp, while others went afar to shop, or watch a movie, or simply “veg out.” As many campers noted, “we didn’t do much, and it was great!” To see more photos from Parents Day, go to today’s gallery here.

Photos from the annual Counselor Play, featuring the usual wild antics at Camp Porky-MacCrazy with its traditional cast of characters, including Filthy McNasty, Dirty Diane, the Hermit and his wife, the Keeseville Detective, the Laundry Men, and many others. This year’s bonus: a surprising and yet politically correct visit from Borat of Kazakhstan.

Sailing Team Finds Way to Victory

The camp sailing team achieved a stirring, come-from-behind victory in their meet against Camp Lincoln on Friday. Pok-O-MacCready fell behind quickly in the first of three races, but then started their charge as the wind picked up. Doug Cavers captured first in the second race to bring the score to Lincoln 11 and Pok-O 9. In the third and final race Dorothy Farrell and Maggie Belshe came through in the clutch, finishing first and second respectively and wrapping up the 16-14 victory for Pok-O. As sailor Dave Horwich put it: “We came, we saw, we sailed away with victory!” Click here to see the sailing team roster and photo.

Another Soccer Split

The boys split another pair of soccer games with Camp Lincoln on Friday, with the older boys winning by a score of 4-0 and the younger boys falling by a margin of 7-1. In the latter game Oliver Moody registered Pok-O’s only goal and Isak Spanjol turned in a solid performance as goalie. In the older boys’ game the goals were tallied by Spencer Ivey, Alejandro Buenfil, and Varun Anand, with the highlight being Alejandro’s scoring header on a cross from Zach Fine.
