Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Except subtract the lions and tigers and add a dragon, a dog, and a couple of turtles. This past week the Pioneer boys hung out at MacCready to try their hand at pottery, one of camp’s most popular and fastest-growing activities. Pottery is taught in every class period of every day, and additionally most sections also choose to pursue pottery as an evening activity as well. The Pioneers worked with instructor “Pottery” Kelly (at left) to each make his own favorite animal, and a few of them invented new animals. “Making my bear was fun; I liked making the clay look like animals,” said Jacob Mount. The boys (and counselors too) created their animals from scratch, adding and subtracting clay to transform the clay into unique animals. The boys then painted their creatures to add the finishing touches. “This evening section activity,” said Kelly, “was the perfect ending to another great day of camp.” The Pioneers’ creations can now be seen at our inaugural Camper Art Gallery, which can be found here. |
