Some summers, it amounts to not much more than an intracamp ribbon fest. Not so for 2007. 19 riders from several area camps and stables came to camp Sunday for the annual Big MacCready Horse Show. And yet, for the prepared and determined Pok-O-MacCready riders, it was still a ribbon fest!
Over 40 campers, taking part in all divisions, combined for eight blue ribbons, two reserve titles, and class championships by Abby Davis, Elias Smith, Hannah Sargent, Nicole Jarck, and Katie Gigantiello. “I did really well,” said Gigantiello, “but mostly, it was a lot of fun.” Additionally, Blake Artuso, one of two campers entered in the demaning, high-jumping Gambler’s Choice, took the blue ribbon.
For some campers, the Big MacCready was the culmination of a summer, or camper career, of equestrian events. For others, such as session #2 camper Grace Ives, it was a first ever competition. “It was my first show,” said Ives. “The counselors convinced me to ride and I’m glad I did. It was fun!”
Camp riding director Cat Harrison and her staff said that the show provided the cleanest rounds of jumping ever, and they especially cited the performances of Artuso and Montana Machson in Gambler’s Choice as especially inspiring.
