CasinoLogo  Some won millions.... only to lose it all within an hour. Whether it was being won or lost by luck, odds, or armed robbery, a lotCasinoLogo1 of Pok-O money changed hands Thursday night in the dining hall. “We did everything we could to hold the bandits in check,” stated The Sheriff, “but on a few occasions, they overwhelmed us!”

None the less, by the time authorities came to shut down the operation, every camper had had an enjoyable time playing roulette, poker, black jack, mini putt, wheel of fortune, horse racing, the stock market, and other games of chance, as well as delighting in candy, chips, brownies, soda and other fine food and drink.

CAMP 46er ROSTER CLOSING IN ON 300

In 1955, former camper Duane Nash completed his 46ers. He was the first from Pok-O. A half-century later, with aSprague1 hiking program considered one of the finest in the Adirondacks, that number is nearing the 300 mark.

On Thursday afternoon, atop East Dix, senior camper Sam Sprague became camp’s 7th 46er of the 2007 season; the 294th overall. Sprague began climbing the Adirondack high peaks at the age of six, and has spent the past five summers chalking up mountains as a camper. Joining him on the hike were three other campers, two counselors, and Sam’s father, Hal. The baby food of choice (not necessarily Sprague’s choice): Lamb and lamb gravy. “Gross,” said the new 46er.

On the upside, the day was “great, a great climb,” said Sprague. “The best part was going up the slide!” (below, right)
