Coming and Going

Campers venture out of camp; Parents are invited to camp

VisitinDay  It’s been just over a week since session #1 campers arrived and, this weekend, parents will have the chance to see their kids in BigMacCaction. Sunday, August 5 has been designated as visiting day for the three week session. “Parents will have the chance to tour camp with their child, see the activities and even take their boy or girl out of camp for the afternoon,” stated visiting day coordinator Dana Beck.

While many campers are heading off to the woods and waters of the Adirondacks, the boy’s senior section last night headed to the ballpark in Vermont’s largest city. The Vermont Lake Monsters, a minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals, defeated Hudson Valley 6-1. The boys were joined in Burlington by their counselors, as well as Headmaster Erik Zimmerman, and camp assistant directors Fiona Dubuss and Dana Beck. As the pictures below prove, the food was as popular as the competition.

The Third World - by Abigail Davis and Andrea Espinoza

At last Sunday’s weekly vespers service, two MacCready campers presented this original bilingual reflection on their camp experience.

My fourth year it is for me; coming for three weeks each time.

VerticalSunsetI’ve learned how to trot really well on a horse.

E aprendido a windsurf mejor.

I learned how to hike, what to pack, and how to put on moleskin.

I learned to sing solo in front of a lot of people.

Tambien estoy aprendido a hablar alfrente detedo el camp.

I learned how to get back on a kayak.

Yo tambien e aprendido a boltear a un kayak.

But I didn’t just learn to do all these physical actions; my confidence has risen from being an arachnophobic city girl, to a teenager aspiring to be a teenager.

I have mentally challenged myself.

I know how to hike with burning blisters on my heels.

I have learned how to laugh at my own stupid mistakes.

I have learned at camp that the key to this world is to keep positive thoughts in your head…

‘Cause you can just keep going….

Porque siempre puedes seguir.
