WELCOME BACK TO CAMP!

102nd Summer Season Begins Under Sunny Skies

”It ain’t camp ‘till the kids arrive!”

So exclaimed Pok-O-Moonshine Headmaster Erik Zimmerman, as over 200 boys and girls descended upon the campus of Pok-O-MacCready to begin another summer of fun and friendship. Zimmerman, MacCready Director Missy Livsey and the entire staff have spent the past week in training, and eagerly awaiting the campers’ arrival.

BusHug  Camp officially began at 6:14am in New York City. The Ivey family were the first to arrive to meet the busses-- getting to the Roosevelt Hotel before the camp staff had arrived. By 7:00am, the busses were on their way to Westchester and points north. The separation seemed harder for the parents then the kids. “Parents were lamenting that they couldn’t go to camp,” said admissions director Dana Beck. “One father actually tried to get on the bus!”

Cloudy conditions in the New York metropolitan area gave way to bright sunshine once the busses reached the Adirondacks, prompting one entire bus to break into the camp song: “There’s a camp called Pok-O-MacCready, and it’s a camp we all love. Where the sun is always shining in the skies above.”

Meantime, at camp, campers were arriving by car, with staff on hand to WelcomeBackwelcome families and point campers to their summer homes. Once again the roles, at times, seemed to be reversed as one mother fought back tears as her son happily joined his section. Another camper was so happy to be back at Pok-O that he stepped out of the car and kissed the ground.    “It’s awesome to be back at camp because it feels like home. It really does!”, said fourth year MacCready Camper Heidi Taggart. Xavier Robles, a 12-year old Intermediate back for his third summer added, “It’s amazing because you see all of these people you knew from before, and now you get to meet new people!”

Within minutes of their arrival, campers were immediately occupied with games, nurse checks, swim tests and camp tours. “It’s awesome,” raved veteran counselor Michael Carch, “because from now through the next several weeks it’s gonna be non-stop excitement and energy!”
