Countdown to campers arrival: Less than three days!
The 102nd season at Pok-O-MacCready Camps is just around the corner and for the 2006 staff, the fun- and hard work- is already under way. Staff orientation, known as “pre-camp” officially kicked off Wednesday, June 14. Throughout the ten day session, counselors have been training in first aid, life guarding, wilderness trips, class and teaching preparation, section activity planning and a variety of other workshops, seminars and activities.
On Wednesday afternoon, the staff took part in a pre-camp Indian Days, with the guiding lights from the five tribes competitng in a track meet (including the pie-eating contest, left), rolas, a tug-of-war and the tribal cheer. “Indian Games were great!,” said MacCready Junior section head Bessie Edwards. “It was a good way to get the counselors psyched for all of the fun games the kids will get to play.”
Orientation has, of course, been much more than just games. “Everyone’s been working very hard to get the camp ready for the kids,” voiced camp Director Sharp Swan. MacCready’s Kate Durlacher, who will head up the C.I.T. program said “It’s been great to meet so many new people.”
“I can’t wait for the kids to arrive!,” announced Pok-O Intermediate section head Mike Taptick. He won’t have to wait long. The busses leave from New York City and Elmsford Sunday morning. Camp’s admissions director Dana Beck will be on hand to greet parents and campers: “I’ll see everyone in New York City!”
NOTES: Joining Dana in New York to travel to camp on the busses will be Sharp Swan, and counselors J.T. Brooks, Leah Crohn, Andrew Waber and Stephen Coughlin...... If you are planning to drive to camp, please try and arrive between 12:00-1:30pm.
