USAflag

Under a bright blue sky (with a tinge of red and white), Old Glory flies proudly at Pok-O-MacCready as 300 campers and counselors celebrate the 4th of July.

The day will feature, a camp wide dance and party and, of course, the 230th annual Revolutionary War game.

POK-O-MacCREADY DROPS A PAIR TO RIVAL CAMP

PitchontheWay In the season opening afternoon of inter-sports competition, the boys of Camp Pok-O-Moonshine lost a couple of baseball games to Camp Lincoln. One was a blowout; the other, a late heartbreaker.

AT POK-O: A 2-run rally in the top of the 7th and final inning vaulted Lincoln to a 5-3 win on a hot, dry afternoon. Following three scoreless frames, the visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 4th, but Pok-O rallied to tie it up over the next two innings on walks, and a few timely hits. “It was a really sloppy game, but I still had fun,” voiced Pok-O veteran Geoff Livsey

That sloppiness proved costly in the final inning as Lincoln scored the decisive runs on an error. “Not our best game,” said Pok-O starter Jordan Dunleavy. Head coach Andy Reithal was able to muster a positive spin: “It was a great effort. ManyEvanPitch of our players improved significantly from last year.” Among those players were four girls from Camp MacCready. “I had fun. The girls did better tan some people expected and we had a good time,” said Eleanor Roberts.

Pok-O rookie Maxx Eichberg, slated to start game #2 on Thursday concluded, “Things didn’t go our way, but we have the next game to look forward to.

AT LINCOLN: A balanced hitting attack and stellar defense led Lincoln to an easy shutout victory over Pok-O. The home team scored seven runs in the first two innings and doubled that with a big fifth inning rally to take a decision that was never in doubt.

PlayatFirst  Highlights for Pok-O included three shutout innings pitched by Evan Greenwald and Kevin Stagno and some solid fielding plays by Stagno (left) and Peter Rupolo.

“I think we did O.K. for a first time,” said starting right fielder Dylan Bronstein. Greenwald noted that, “it was a well fought game but they played better,” while catcher Zachary Lynch summed it up best: “The other team had bazookas and rocket launders but we only had out fists!”

Coach Tom Lynch was pleased that “everyone had a chance to play, both at bat and in the field.”

Team owners called a press conference following the 14-0 loss to give Coach Lynch a full vote of confidence. “I have total faith in our coach and we plan on sticking with him,” said Sharp Swan. “The other highly qualified, results-oriented coaches that were here talking with me are just acquaintances. You should read nothing into it”

ORIGINAL CAMP POEM   by, Emily Perley: MacCready C.I.T.

I leave my mark,

in hopes a spark

of tender recognition.

Will someday grace

those in this place

who like to call it home.

Who love this site

with all their might

and wish no end will come.

To all the joys

and miles and ploys

brought to us by counselors,

To the things we hear

and all we hold dear

brought to us by campers.

To mountains tall

and waterfalls,

brought to us by nature.

And as I scribe

I lose my pride

humbled by the vastness.

By all the space

that’s in this place

through people, time and miles.
