SUMMER SCHOOL

Classes at camp are much more social and fun

NOTE: Due to a busy day on the Pok-O-MacCready alumni web site, camp’s summer site will be abbreviated today. Full stories, a photo gallery and video clips will be posted tomorrow. Feel free to check out the ALUMNI SITE HERE, with news for both parents and alumni regarding camp news and upcoming events.

FraserTeaches  The second session of Pok-O-MacCready classes began Wednesday morning with 25 offerings for the boys and girls campers. Among the activities are the specialty programs in homesteading, blacksmithing, rock climbing, mountain biking, pottery, tennis, sailing and swimming instruction. Campers made their class selection Tuesday afternoon.

All campers have instructional periods in the morning, while the girls also take part in afternoon classes. All told, the boys have three daily periods while the girls have four. The session continues virtually daily until August 10 and will be broken up only by a few all-camp games, and weekend “clubs”, where the campers can take a new class of their choosing.

A VISIT FROM THE AUTHORITIES

ACApersonnel

On Wednesday, Pok-O-MacCready was visited by the American Camping Association. The A.C.A. performs a inspections on all prospective and affiliated camps at least once every three years.

“It is vital to our camp that we maintain our A.C.A. approval, as it adds legitimate credibility to our camp in the eyes of parents, and other organizations,” said Lauren Swan (in photo, far right with the representatives of the A.C.A., and camp Director Sharp Swan.

Camp has long been recognized by the American Camping Association and, by all indications, the association will continue. “It was our best visit in years,” said Sharp Swan.
