“You are entering a struggle!” So exclaimed The Mighty Sachem, at last night’s council fire. The council, featuring dances, passing out of feathers and the unburying of the hatchet, officially kicked off Indian Days. By tomorrow night, a tribal champion will be announced.

The warm air was filled with excitement and nervous anticipation. As the Sachem concluded: “You will be tested as you never have in your life.”

INTRA-CAMP SPORTS: With Pok-O-MacCready receiving no takers in its efforts to land an opponent in Volleyball, camp instead staged a Intramural tournament. Four teams competed in preliminary round action, followed by a semi-final and championship. Led by six-footers David Balderston and Julia Schweitzer, “Team Baldy” (below, center) took the title with a thrilling 25-20 final win over “Team Timko”. “It was extremely competitive,” said tournment Director Josh Bornt. “It was well played but at the same time, a lot of fun.” (See rosters and results HERE)

SAILING THE SUNFISH

On Monday, campers took part in their first of four sailing regattas, with an away match against North Country Camps. InTheHull Used to the much larger Laser 2 crafts, Pok-O-MacCready’s skippers had to negotiate with much smaller Sunfish boats.

Three heats were held on windy and unpredictable Augur Lake. The Pok-O duo of skipper Doug Cavers and SWAB Matt Kantor won each of the first two heats, but the consistent sailing from the rival camp was enough to give them an overall victory: Two heats to none, with one draw.

“All had a great time,” voiced Pok-O-MacCready boating Director Eric Bauer. “Before the race, there were a lot of butterflies and nervous stomachs. After the race, a lot of smiles!” (See Team Photo, Roster and Results HERE)
