“Our biggest turnout in years!” raved Camp Director Sharp Swan.
With beautiful, warm conditions, a Hawaiian Luau, and plenty of things to do, parents and alumni, staff and campers all engaged in a midsummer reunion and party. “The best part was seeing old friends,” said parent and former camper David Joelson, who spent the afternoon with his family in Lake Placid. “Also, I suppose, seeing my son was great too!”
Parents started arriving immediately following breakfast, and took part in the obligatory, yet sincere hugs, kisses and smiles. “Seeing the smiles on the faces of all the kids, it was amazing,” voiced parent Nancy Bucciarelli. “The very best, though, was seeing your own child for the first time. It’s the kind of hug you get only once a year.”
After guests were treated to tours of camp and visits to their child’s activities and sections, everyone congregated outside of Robinson Hall for the 102nd annual Pok-O Picnic. “The picnic is the best part,” said parent and alumnus Barry Singer. “It’s cool to see so many campers and so many families.”
The afternoon was spent “playing campers” with swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and tennis. Most families also found time to leave camp for the air conditioned comfort of a restaurant, mall or movie theater. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 seemed to be the popular choice. According to Vicky Terenzi: “It wasn’t totally getting away since we went to see the movie and ran into a bunch of rowdy campers!”
“It was great having everyone here,” said longtime staff member Tim Singer. And playing host certainly has its benefits. As one parent exclaimed: “After brining my youngest to camp today, she can’t wait to come next year as a camper!”
