‘LUCK BE A LADY”
One week from tonight, the curtain goes up on one of Broadway’s most popular hits: Guys and Dolls. This will be a much demanded return engagement at the MacCready theatre barn; the musical also had a one night run during the 1990’s.
“Things are going really well,” voice busy director Bessie Edwards during rehearsals. “Most recently, We’ve been working on songs. Our biggest challenge has been blocking scenes, since not everyone is in the same drama class.”
Playing one of the female leads is C.I.T. Diana Timko, who starred in last year’s production of Little Shop of Horrors. “It’s so much fun, it’s coming along well,” said Timko, who will play the role of Sarah. “It’s a show that veryone can take part in and we’re coming together as an ensemble.”
Other roles include: Harry Yerkes as Nathan Detroit, Alex Sieger as Sky Masterson and Sarah Bielenson as Adaleide. Among the supporting players are Carder Welles, John McDonald, Anna Greenwood, Hannah Bielenson, Grace London and Marie Whitney, while a few dozen other campers make up the singers and dancers.
Meantime, a camp class dedicated solely to set construction has been busy at work under the direction of Michael Carch. “The set looks great and the kids have a lot of fun with the power tools.”
The curtain will rise on Guys and Dolls Friday, July 21 at 8:00pm. Tickets are still available and a good time is guaranteed for actors, crew and audience alike. “Shows are always fun,” says Timko. “It’s all about coming together and singing and dancing with your friends.”
