3000 YEARS AGO...
The 102nd annual first ever Greek Festival got off to a rousing start Tuesday. The two day event began with an opening ceremony, held on the shore of Long Pond. Skits were performed, Gods were introduced, and campers were sorted into their four city-states: Troy, Sparta, Athens and Argos.
The first contest was held Tuesday evening, with the Spartans dominating the Trojan War Game. Using the power of their ammunition, finesse of their spears and strong protection of the Trojan horse, Sparta kept the other teams on the defense all night long. “We’re built for destruction,” exclaimed Spartan Harley Tucker. “It was fun making up cheers and chants,” added team mates Francis Love and Emma Merrick. Win or lose, the game was a hit with all warriors: “It was more fun becase there were more weapons and more places to hide,” said Matt Edwards of Troy.
Competition resumes today with The Odyssey and The Peloponnesian War, with the festival concluding with the Greek Feast. (SEE DAY ONE RESULTS and CITY-STATE ROSTERS HERE)
