Burlington, VT-- After blowing an early 5-1 lead, the Vermont Lake Monsters rallied late to top the Staten Island Yankees 7-6 last night in class-A minor league action at Centennial Field. It was the third consecutive one-run victory for the Lake Monsters, affiliates of the Major League Washington Nationals.

The game was highlighted by the annual appearance of the camp Pok-O-Moonshine Senior section. The boys rode the ferry to Vermont during the late afternoon, and each camper was given a ticket to the game, along with a food voucher for a cheeseburger, hot dog, chips, side dish and soda. Add to that the fact that the evening’s ballpark promotion was “Ben and Jerry’s Summer of Love night”, and the kids also received a free baseball and a bowl of ice cream.

Joining the Seniors at the game were a few Intermediate campers, Headmaster Erik Zimmerman, and a group of other camp staff and administrators. “This is my first baseball game,” said administrative assistant Carly Anderson of Scotland. “The game was O.K., but all the other stuff to do is fun!” Camper Erik Peterson of Caracus, Venezuela also attended his first game: “I like basbeall. But not as much as soccer.”

ThermometerFEELING HOT, HOT, HOT

The temperatures are in the 90’s today, which makes this one of the few days where campers actually look forward to swimming lessons.

Campers who are not required to be at the swim docks will surely make their way there during afternoon free swim. In addition, several section activities will be held on or near the water, or in the coolness of the woods, shade or pottery barn.

THE QUEST FOR THE 4646erlogo

16 Wilderness trips are scheduled for this week at camp including a climbing trip that departed this morning for the Santanoni Range.

Should the trip succeed in climbing Panther Peak, camp will have completed all of the Adirondack Forty-Sixers during the summer of 2006. The figure has been stuck on 45 for ten days, but tomorrow’s expected finish will still come earlier than the 2005 camp 46er finish.
