Pok-O-MacCready falls to Lincoln in a classic A sixth inning ground out halted an incredible rally and left the Pok-O-MacCready younger team one run short, as they dropped a 4-3 decision on the road to Camp Lincoln Tuesday afternoon. Meantime, Pok-O-Mac’s older squad jumped out to a huge 8-0 lead in the first inning before seeing their potential rout washed out by the weather.
However, defense ruled the day, and Pok-O got stellar fielding plays from Zach Fine, Ted Gertner and Max Gailey. “It was one of the best played games I’ve ever seen,” said Pok-O manager Jon Sasmor. “All the runs were scored not by errors, but by clutch hitting.” The bulk of those runs came late as Lincoln plated all four of its tallies in the bottom of the fifth, while Pok-O nearly tied it with three consecutive hits to open the top of the 6th. A Jason Veitch sacrifice fly to deep center was stopped only by another incredible catch, this one by Lincoln. “It was fun and exciting,” said Rupolo during The game was twice halted due to weather. On both occasions, the players from both teams retired to a nearby Camp Lincoln lodge (right), where they mixed in Ping Pong, socializing and general hanging out. “They were nice,” commented Doug Fischer. “They let us come up and share their space.” At Willsboro, NY- A Geoff Livsey double, a Jordan Dunleavy RBI single and a string of walks vaulted Pok-O-Mac’s coed older squad to a huge lead at home. Dunleavy was equally as impressive on the mound, having struck out four batters when the game was called in the second inning. “I was kind of bummed it got called,” averred Dunleavy. “I could have pitched a shutout.” “It was kind of an ugly game, with all those walks, but we were solid,” remarked manager Andy Reithal. “Everyone played hard for the one inning that we played.” Both teams now gear up for rematches, set for Thursday afternoon at alternate field locations. |
