HERE WE GO AGAIN

Second Session of Camp is Under Way

The Vans pulled out of New York City and Westchester County, and for the next five hours they rolled northward toward Willsboro.  Simultaneously, cars were arriving at camp bearing eager children along with camping gear.  And completing the triad, the day camper shuttle pulled in at 9:00am, having picked up kids in neighboring Plattsburgh and Ausable Forks, NY.

Session #2, the three-week session is under way.   “There is a different feel for the second half of the summer, “said section head David Durant. “The programs and activities are very much the same, but with the mix of new campers, full-season campers and day campers, the personnel is much more diverse.”

Following tours of camp and a visit to the Activity Fair, campers were given swim tests, riding tests and had visits with the camp nurses. The transition into their new, temporary summer homes appears to have been smooth.  “It’s too early to tell,” said Collin Schultz, “but the activities look like they’re going to be fun..

The day one activities included swim tests, a coed kickball game, and Pioneer section “Sockey”

Other first-timers felt the same way. “It’s been great.  The counselors have been nice.  There’s nothing to complain about,” voiced Addie Oursler.

Eric Peterson traveled to camp from Venezuela.  “So far it’s fun because we do fun things!” And Maggie Homer added, “It’s great. Everybody’s nice, I like the cabins and lodges, plus the food is good.”

All nine sections spent the afternoon in activities and playing games and just like that, camp is alive and kicking for another three weeks. Tomorrow’s schedule calls for the entire boys camp to go out on day trips, while the girls commence their class scchedule, one day in advance of the boys
