BIG MacCREADY HORSE SHOW #1

blueribbon   For the first time in its 39 year history, Camp MacCready staged a horse show during the four-week (opening) session of camp. “This was exciting,” said riding director Leann Eveleigh, “because many of the four-weekers have never seen a Big MacCready.”

37 riders, including some from outside programs, competed in 25 classes. The weather conditions were perfect, and all of Camp MacCready was on hand to cheer their friends.  14 different Pok-O-MacCready campers earned blue ribbons, while Champion and Reserve ribbons were handed out to 17 riders.      For the campers staying for the full summer, as well as the three-weekers arriving, two more shows await, including the summer’s second Big MacCready, scheduled for August 7.

shlFINALS

In possibly the most dramatic final in history, the Senior Hockey League title was decided on a goal with less than two seconds remaining.

Alex Schade’s soft, angled wrist shot went through the legs of the goaltender and in for the game’s only tally as Anger Management defeated Shot Down by Zim to win the Colonel Cup. “I shot the ball, slowly,” said Schade, “and I knew time hadn’t run out, but I didn’t think it was going to go in.

Head referee Stephen Coughlin called it “The most intensely played hockey game seen at Pok-O since 1994.” (read more about The S.H.L. here)

LONG POND REGATTA

sailing02   Skipper Ty Royce and crewman Doug Cavers were surprise winners at 101st Long Pond Regatta, held Saturday morning under a blue sky and windy conditions.

More than experience, or the boat, the duo managed to handle the wind better than the other six teams. “It was pretty cool,” said Royce, “the water was rough and the sailors were having problems.  We had to tack a lot. Overall, it was a good race and Doug was a good partner.

Julie Liebster, who finished second along with partner Robin Farrell remarked, “It was the craziest wind I’ve ever seen.  It was ‘amazingly’ fun!”

Sailors staying for the entire summer have two more racing dates: Next weekend on always challenging Lake Champlain, as well as Jack’s Cup, scheduled for August.
