TRAILER LOAD OF RIBBONS

Pok-O-MacCready riders clean up at horse show

RibbonsClintonville, NY-- Following three weeks of lessons, training and anticipation, the riders from camp finally made their first trip to a regional horse show, taking part Sunday at  the Adirondack Horse Show at Willow Hill Farm.  33 campers, 14 staff and 13 horses made the trip, competing in a mix of rain and sunshine against riders from other camps and farms around the area.

“The kids were great,” voiced Pok-O-MacCready riding director Leann Eveleigh.  “There were loads of family members there.  Some of the kids were nervous, but they came out of it really feeling like they achieved something.”

Nearly every rider won a ribbon of some color, while seven standouts managed to earn Champion or Reservewalk Champion honors. Said Champion Julia Schweitzer:  “It was really fun. Our whole class did well and (my success) was definitely a team effort between me and my horse, Saint.”

Paul Bunyan Day

It’s a camp tradition each summer the day following Parents Day.  Paul Bunyan Day was held Sunday afternoon on the MacCready ballfield.  Campers took part in a series of individual treehugand team events designed in the spirit of the lumberjacking legend.oneleg

Among the contests: Barrel rolling, log hauling, one-person saw, tree hugging, pole balancing and the 50-yard dash.  While times and placings were recorded, every participant earns a patch. “The blowdown run was awesome,” said Devon Hall. “It had all sorts of mud, but I got to shower after.”  As for Daniel Watson, “The barrel roll was really cool.”

One impressive event highlight came in the one-legged stand, where senior boys campers Henry Hector (right) and Jack Lenz stubbornly tried to outlast one another. In the end, both stayed at it for one hour and twenty minutes!
