The 2005 Pioneer section is all about imagination, excitement and fun. Each day features a jam-packed day of classes, games, swimming and diving, and creative evening activities. “We get to do cool things that older kids can’t,” says first-year camper Eduardo Hirata of Mexico. By the time the bugle blows taps, we’re all ready for lights out, and a good restful sleep.
In the afternoon and evening, the Pioneers engage in a myriad of events and activities, sometimes creating our own games. As Alec Gonzalez stated: “I like rowboating... and... I don’t know... everything!” We’ve had cross-section acitivities with the Intermediates, the Advanced Section and even the youngest girls

The Pioneers are one of the most cohesive sections in camp. We do everything together. In keeping with the Pok-O legacy of wilderness appreciation, we’ve gone on a number of excursions into the woods. We’ve hiked Bare and Sugarloaf, and even our first 46er, Cascade. We had an overnight trip to Indian Rock that featured such gourmet delights as beef papillon, apple pie, Jiffy Pop and toasted marshmallows; all prepared over an open fire.

Of course, what truly makes our section great are the campers, and the hardworking staff. “I like the games and the counselors,” voiced Diego Campos. Rookie staff member Fraser Reid: “Working with the Pioneers gives you a greater appreciation of a child’s learning process. They’re are just bubbling with life!”
“We get to do a lot of special things,” said another first-year camper, Andrew Gonzalez. “like activities with the ADV, and climbing 46ers. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience!”
