Street hockey is a major, fast growing sport in America. With clubs all over the world, street hockey has become as popular as ice hockey alone, with leagues in every state. One league has found it’s way to the small, rural town of Willsboro, NY; at a camp called Pok-O-MacCready.
The S.H.L. (Senior Hockey League) is a hockey club composed of all the Senior boys at Camp Pok-O-Moonshine. Comprised of seven teams, S.H.L. is by far the most popular game among the Seniors. Chosen in a draft, boys are placed on teams run by the counselors. They play each other ina constructed “rink”, where the face off in league play. After the season, a tournament is held to crown the best team.
S.H.L. is meant to be a friendly event, but tensions fly as goals are scored and shots are blocked. Serious players such as Collin McCullough and Jordan Dunleavy have led their teams and are the top scorers in the league. Both are deep into the league. While talking with Collin, he told me that “S.H.L. is awesome!”
Most Seniors would downright agree with him.
