SPECIAL EDITION

The Headmaster Top Ten

During his address at the Camp Pok-O-Moonshine closing banquet, boys camp Headmaster Erik Zimmerman listed his top ten favorite things for the summer of 2005

YMCA

10. Moonshiners - It was a great year for new creative acts. There were many great ones, but my favorites were the Senior counselors, the Pioneers, and my favorite of the year was the ADV's version of Little Shop of Horrors.

9. The ADV. What a great section! They had fantastic hard working kids and three dedicated counselors. They spent much of their summer out in the woods advancing their skills. But when they were in camp, they worked hard every day playing the hay game, the council fire game, helping with inspection, CITing in sections and classes, setting the dining hall and generally making sure camp runs well. They always worked with a smile on their faces. I know many of these boys will be fantastic counselors in the near future.

8. The food! Mike and Andrew are the best team of chefs ever, and they had a great staff to help them.

7. Senior Special Olympics - I don't think it was politically correct, but it sure looked and sounded like fun. The pictures of Greased Artuso and duct taped Artuso were priceless.

Bulletin

6. The Website - Tim Singer did an amazing job reporting on the top events at camp each day, posting them on Camp's website, then photocopying the pictures and articles and displaying them on the bulletin board.

5. Hiking - Thanks to Kenny, Kate, Maggie and a tremendous group of trip leaders, the hiking program this summer was spectacular. The enthusiasm to get out and hike steadily grew this summer and I expect that we will have even more people in the woods next summer!

4. The Trampoline - This was the coolest new toy at camp since the rope swing was put in. What is more fun than a forty pound pioneer being launched off the blob by Kenny Ryba?

3. Pioneer- Great kids, fantastic counselors and one of the most dedicated, creative, hard working and thoughtful section heads camp has ever seen. Aaron Bilek is only 20 years old, so hopefully he will be back to grace camp with his presence for many years to come.

2. The Staff- This summer has been one of the best summers Camp has ever seen because of our staff. Every year they are asked to do more. This year they had to deal with the additional burden of the DOH rules and an extra amount of writing for the Camper folders. The folders are fantastic thanks to the hard work of Scotty McIntyre and all of the staff who worked so hard on them. And Campers, Camp is the amazing experience that it is because of your counselors.

1. CKD- Chris Durlacher is the reason many of you are here today. He has been working as the Admissions Director for the past two years. In addition to that important and time consuming job, he also managed to be the assistant headmaster this year. He made my job easy, always doing what needed to be done 15 seconds before I got to it. He is smart, fun and tremendously dedicated to making this place the greatest in the Universe. He is headed to the real world and Camp will miss him greatly.
