AUSABLE VALLEY HORSE SHOW

Clintonville, NY, July 31-- 35 boy and girl campers, along with eight staff members and 12 horses headed out early Sunday, destination: Willow Hill Farm, for their final road show of the summer.

Competing against a field of competition consisting mainly of full-time equestrian campers, the riders fromchristian Pok-O-MacCready performed admirably, winning nine blue ribbons, ten red (second place) ribbons, five Champion ribbons and three Reserve ribbons. (see full list of results)

Christian Artuso (right), aged 9, competing in his first camp show, was stellar capturing two first places on his horse PAL.  Artuso, who also rides at home, remarked that “I think it was a bit of experience combined with a bit of luck.”

Claudia Tetzner of Caracus, Venezuela rides at camp only, but was just as solid.  Riding Twist, Tetzner managed a first, and two seconds.  “It was my first show.  Yesterday, I was a bit nervous, but when we got there, it was really fun.”

The final show of the camp season, The Big MacCready #2, is scheduled for Sunday, August 7.

LAKE CHAMPLAIN REGATTA

sailingWestport, NY, July 30- Ten eager, not to mention brave sailors ventured out on to the always rough and unpredictable chop of Lake Champlain Saturday to face off against two other camps at the 2005 Lake Champlain Regatta.

Under the leadership of camp’s boating director, Sarah Low, the campers, divided into five pairs, took part in a series of racing heats against formidable competition: Camp Dudley, achamplainsail sports camp, and Camp Normandy, which concentrates solely on water sports.  “We knew that they’d be faster and they were,” said Low, “but our kids managed to do very well.”

As for the racing, Pok-O Intermediates David Horwich and Joe Gigantiello put in the best results with a fifth and a sixth in their two heats.  “The kids from Dudley were very friendly, but the other camp was real competitive,” said Gigantiello.  Added Horwich, “It was extremely competitive for them, but mainly fun for us.”

Low concluded, “It was such a beautiful day.  There was mist on the mountains as we drove down there, and mist on the lake at the start.  And the experience was great for our sailors.”
