BOATING and FISHING
– This takes place each afternoon before dinner and is open all morning on Sundays. Campers have access to the rowboats, canoes, sailboats, kayaks and windsurf boards, or they may choose to fish off of the docks. There is full staff supervision and boat assistance both on the water and ashore.
CAMP ASSEMBLY
- Occasionally, the entire camp with gather together to watch a concert, play, slide show or other entertainment.
“CLUBS”
- Held each Saturday, clubs offer a break from the fixed class/activities schedule. Clubs are opportunities for campers to participate in a class they are not signed up for, practice on a sports team, or take advantage of their counselors’ boundless imaginations in crazy and unusual activities!
COUNCIL FIRES - As part of camp's NATIVE AMERICAN PROGRAM, the five tribes of the Iroquois nation will occasionally gather at the council
fire ring for stories, dances, and other traditional rites of celebration for Native American Days.
DANCES
- Dances are held several times throughout the summer, both indoors and outdoors. They are designed for campers of all ages with music, games and themes. A “DJ” will host and, on occasion, a live band of talented campers and counselors will perform.
EARLY MORNING FISHING
– Once a week, a collection of hardy campers and staff fish on the tranquil waters of Long Pond around sunrise, when the rest of camp is asleep and the fish are hungry!
FREE SWIM
(also referred to as “general swim”) – Held every day, and several times daily during hot weather, free swim is a time for campers to use the diving boards, rope swing, trampoline, slide, rafts, or simply cool off! Lifeguards are always on duty and campers use a “buddy system” while swimming.
HIKES and TRIPS- Campers have many opportunities to go on day and overnight trips. These
trips include hikes up mountains, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing trips, waterfall trips, blueberry picking, photography trips and wildlife/nature viewing. (Read more in WILDERNESS TRIPS.)
HORSE SHOWS
- All of our riders can sign up for shows hosted either at Pok-O-MacCready or other nearby camps every Sunday. Once a summer, campers can also see some incredible horseback riding at the Lake Placid Horse Show. (Read more in HORSEBACK RIDING.)
INTER-CAMP COMPETITION - On selected dates throughout the
summer, boys and girls may choose to compete against teams from other camps. We have some friendly camp rivalries, and Pok-O-MacCready fields teams in baseball, softball, tennis, archery, riflery, basketball,
soccer, volleyball and other sports! (Read more in SPORTS.)
MOONSHINERS - The entire camp attends each Moonshiner, which is what we call our talent
shows. Performance is optional, and many campers enjoy acting, telling jokes, singing or dancing with friends, cabin groups or their entire section. Counselors often put on a good show, too!
VESPERS
- Each Sunday evening, the whole camp gathers for a peaceful, non-denominational period of reflection. The service is intended to be one of the few quiet times at camp - a time to reflect upon the week and the theme of the evening. Staff and campers contribute to Vespers by reading poems and stories, singing songs, and performing musical pieces. Vespers is also one of the few times during the camp season when we ask everyone to be clean, well-dressed, and on their best behavior.
