It’s a test of perseverance, teamwork, and endurance. It challenges all participants to dig deep within themselves to achieve a common goal. The challenge is to place a member of the Camp Pok-O-MacCready family atop each of the “Adirondack 46er” mountains on the same calendar date, and to raise money for the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation.
The POK-O-MacCREADY 46-IN-A-DAY event will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday, August 23, 2008, in conjunction with the annual Family Camp session in August. Members of the camp family are encouraged to register early in order to secure a place on the climbing roster.
Six times in the past, the Pok-O-MacCready family has endeavored to climb all 46 in a single day, succeeding in that quest in 1992, while climbing at least 40 peaks during every attempt. (See listing of past attempts here)
In fact, 2007 was a hugely successful attempt; 40 of the mountains were climbed in very rough weather conditions. But more important, over four thousand dollars was raised by climbers, volunteers and donors. All for the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation.
Everyone who donates and climbs in the “46-in-a-day” event will receive a complimentary commemorative water bottle, and participants are eligible for free bunkhouse lodging at Pok-O-MacCready Camps on Friday. Likewise, participants will be offered a drop-in early buffet breakfast on Saturday morning, and are welcome to join the celebratory Bar-B-Q Saturday night.
